Varnhem church

This church dates from the12th century. It has been ravaged by fire a few times. Behind it is the ruins of a monastery. Four medieval kings have been buried here : Erik Eriksson, Erik Knutsson, Knut Eriksson and Inge the Elder. Birger Jarl ( the founder of Stockholm ) and his wife did also chose this as their final resting place. Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie, the owner of Läckö castle and several other estates ( for example the hunting-lodge that is now the town hall of Lidköping, and Höjentorp ), restored the church in the 17th century, and is also buried here.
Some more photos of the church. In the monastery museum, there is a graveslab with a runic inscription on it.
Look at the map. Now, let´s look at one more gold treasure : the Timboholm treasure.
