Alstadhaug

Next to Alstadhaug church is a big burial mound (56 meters in diameter and 6 meters high) that predates the chuch by a few hundred years. It seems to have been a common strategy by the Roman catholic church, to raise churches near the old cult places, so that the old faith was replaced by the new at the same location. So this churchyard has been in use continuously for about 1500 years.
Take a look at Jelling in Denmark and Uppsala in Sweden.
