Calanais is the Gaelic name of it. This stone circle is unique in it's shape - looking a bit like a Celtic cross. In the center of the circle is a 4 meter tall stone. And also a Stone Age grave.... There are some more stone circles nearby : Cnoc Ceann and Cnoc Fhillibhir Bheag....

It's situated 25 kilometres south-west of Stornoway on the island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

11 kilometres north of Callanish, you find Carloway broch.
