Picture stones |

The picture stones are very local - they all come from Gotland, which is the biggest island in Sweden. They date from the 5th-11th century. The smallest ones are the oldest, and the big mushroom / phallus-shaped stones are the youngest. Most of these photos were taken in the Museum of National Antiquities in Stockholm - those are the dark ones ( no flash is allowed, and no tripod ).... |
