The Kårstad stone is a rock with petroglyphs and Elder Futhark runes. The runic inscription date from 200-500 AD, while the petroglyph ships are older. I visited Bergen museum in 2007, and this is what the rock looked like then. It was protected by a chipboard, 'cause somebody had covered a part of it with graffiti. In 2016 I came back, and I expected it to have been restored to former glory, and perhaps sheltered behind glass. That was not the case. The cover was a bit more torn and painted white - that's all. However I could see a part of one of the petroglyph ships, and also the first two runes. That's better than nothing.
Two photos from above also, taken with the cellphone camera. The right part of the rock was impossible to get a decent photo of. Too narrow.... Here a link which show you all of the stone.
