The Fröslunda shields
These bronze shields ( 16 of them ), made
only for ceremonial use, were lowered down with plaited reed between them,
in a bay of Kinneviken, about 3000 years ago. A gift to the Gods ? The
name Fröslunda = Frö´s / Freja´s ( sacrificial ? ) grove. Were there some
kind of a fertility cult there ?
During these 3000 years the ground has risen, become arable land, and in 1985 a farmer ploughed right through some of them....
They are very thin and very frail.
