Karlsborg

When Sweden lost Finland in a war against Russia in the beginning of the 19th century, and Stockholm no longer was in the center of the Sweden, it was decided that fortresses would be built in the middle of the county, where the government and the royal family + other important authorities would be safe to rule the country in case of war. It took almost a hundred years to build the fortress-town of Karlsborg, and when it was completed it was already outmoded. Beautifully situated on the western shore of lake Vättern, though....
Here´s a photo from above. I got it from Lantmäteriets site. It´s possible to magnify even more, but you´ll have to do that yourselves.... Just make sure that you get the right Karlsborg - there are more than one in Sweden.
